The diesel explosion around the United States will get another infusion later this year as Volkswagen plans to release several more models featuring their clean diesel technology. This will come in the form of their new EA288 TDI Clean Diesel and will be featured in the Golf, Beetle, Passat, and Jetta.
Over the last few years, there has been a resurgence in diesel engines around the country. Technology has turned the once-dirty engines into cleaner alternatives to their gas counterparts. They’re not exactly electric vehicles when it comes to the environment, but they’re much better than the old diesels that used to smell up the roads in the 70s.
According to Diesel Driver:
The EA288 engine is a turbocharged, four-cylinder engine that makes 150 horsepower, an improvement of 10 horsepower over the current model, and 236 pound-feet of torque. It also incorporates several new features designed to further reduce emissions, minimize friction, and optimize fuel economy.
